Running Away

Sometimes the goals that we must acheive as missionaries seem overwhelming. These milestones, coupled with the daily bustle of itinerating make it easy to lose focus. It is those times that I choose to run away.

Those of you who knew us before we were missionaries know that I enjoy to run. I’ve trained for and run in 3 marathons and a good number of 5 and 10Ks. Running has helped me lose weight and keep off the itineration pounds. It has also served as a refuge. It is a time that I can think, a time that I can refocus, and a time that I can pray.

When the activities of life knock me off balance, it is a time that I can reacheive that Christ-Centeredness that I must have in order to survive. And it’s funny, when I run to Jesus and I spend some time contemplating His majesty, all of the pressures of itineration really seem to be shrunk down to size.

Facing problems? maybe it’s time that you run away. Run for the physical benefits, but be sure to run to Jesus. He has a way of changing our perspective.
