Cinco de Mayo

Greetings from the road! We are on the road in De Soto, Missouri, where we celebrated a wonderful Wednesday night service.

Today is the National Day of Prayer, and I hope that many people will be spending time praying for our country and the leaders that govern us. Also, today is Cinco de Mayo, the Mexican celebration that commemorates the temporary turning back of the French occupation at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, a celebration that signifies the Mexicans? determination to defend themselves. More recently, it has become celebration of Mexican culture, and a time each year that an increasing number of Americans can sample the Mexican fiesta.

It is our hope that in the midst of the celebration, each one of you will take the time to pray for our neighbors to the south. As you pray, ask that the Holy Spirit would be able to break down the Mexican resistance to the gospel, to allow them to open their eyes to the opportunity to have a relationship with God and the blessings that come when they make Jesus their Lord.

Where have we been?

Well as the song goes, ?We?ve been everywhere man.? All over Missouri that is. I recently did some tabulation and realized that we have been in over 140 meetings and services over the past year, sharing with a number of our churches all over Southern Missouri.
More recently, we had chance to hold services on April 27th in Cuba, Missouri at Calvary Assembly, where we had a great time answering the congregation?s questions about Mexico.

This weekend, we were at Bethel Assembly in Springfield Missouri, where the congregation invited Dave to participate a celebration honoring the May birthdays in the church, even though his birthday is April 22nd. You can view the pictures included in this post. We also had the honor of being the very first world missionaries at a new church plant in Rogersville, MO, called Grace Church.

We appreciate the opportunity to share our burden with each congregation, and we are extremely grateful for each one who has committed to pray for us, and give sacrificially to see disciples made in Mexico.

Sunday Travels

Our travels took us to two excellent churches on Sunday: New Life Community Church in Chesterfield and First Assembly in Herculaneum. We were able to share about Mexico and meet some wonderful people. Thank you so much for your help as you have moved us closer to begining our work in Mexico! Here is a picture of the church in Herculaneum, sorry folks in Chesterfield, but I didn’t get a picture on Sunday morning! Please send me one, and I’ll be sure to post it.

New Domain!

We’ve moved! We now have our very own domain: www.disciplemexico.org! Thanks so much to Amy Maxwell, one of our supporters, who has provided a place on which our site can rest. This domain, aside from giving us a site that is more easily accessible and easier to spell than our previous one, was chosen because it states precisely what we feel the Lord is calling us to do in Mexico: make disciples who can be used to spread his kingdom troughout the country. So here it is disciplemexico.org! Come back often, and tell others about it.

Where in the world are we going?

Often, the first question that we are asked when we hold a service is, “Just where is it in Mexico that you plan to be ministering?”

We are going to minister in Merida, the capital city of the state of Yucatan in Mexico. Here is a satellite map of the location. It is colonial city of approximately 1.5 million people, many of Maya decent. The Maya are a group of indigenous people that lived in Mexico and the surrounding countries from 1500 BC and ruled until the demise of their empire around 1500 AD. There is an informative article about the Maya posted here. Many of the people in the state of Yucatan have retained their indigenous heritage and even continue to speak a dialect of their ancient language.

Merida It is a tropical location so summers are hot and winters are mild. You can check the weather if you like. It is a beautiful city, so we have been told, but ultimately, it is the location to which God has called us to be used of Him to raise up disciples who, in turn, can reach Mexico for Christ!
